Role:Yard Operative
About the Role
An opportunity for a Yard Operative has come available . It is a hands-on role and the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery team of Construction Projects by ensuring maximum personnel, vehicles, materials and plant efficiency of ongoing activities in construction, development and property investment sectors. PLUS ensuring that reclaimed and surplus materials are stored, and available for re-use from our yard, quarry, and workshop department.
The candidate will have a good eye for detail and take pride in their work, must be Health & Safety compliant and be open to continued, relevant training. All applicants must have eligibility to work in the UK, and have a full, clean Driving Licence. General duties of the role include:
- Storage and housekeeping of yard, deliveries and stock. Ensuring yard is clean, tidy and hazard free at all times. Managing and counting stock & reporting damages.
- Assist with loading and unloading wagons and goods vehicles, distributing deliveries and stock appropriately.
- Cleaning material, plant and goods that are returning to yard, and ensuring plant is well maintained.
- Must be able to work competently as a team, while this role requires some physical lone working, actively engaging in smaller groups is imperative.
- Experience with excavators, fork trucks & telehandlers preferable.
- Keen awareness of health and safety standards and aware of dangers in and around the workspace.
- Report to Plant Manager, working alongside a plant fitter & cargo driver.

Role: HGV Fitter
About the Role
As a HGV Fitter you will be responsible for carrying out any routine maintenance, servicing and any repairs of HGV’s in accordance with approved maintenance plans. You will also be responsible in ensuring that all relevant paperwork for examinations and repairs are correctly completed.
Requirements:
- Ability to perform well independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow written and spoken instructions.
- Ability to work under tight instructions and concentrate over long periods of time.
- Excellent understanding of vehicle technology.
- A strong commitment to the industry and keen knowledge of the latest technology relating to HGV’s.
- Keen awareness of health and safety standards of vehicles.
- Excellent problem solving and practical skills.

Role: Health, Safety and Environment Advisor
About the Role
We have a great opportunity for a Health, Safety and Environment advisor to join our team. You will support L & W Wilson in the safe planning, delivery, and review of a variety of projects across sites in Lancashire and Cumbria whilst ensuring compliance with the company and statutory requirements of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Policies, Standards, and legislation
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out risk assessments and identify how risks can be controlled.
- Outline safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards.
- Carry out regular recorded site inspections to ensure policies and procedures are being properly implemented and identify trends.
- Ensure working practices are safe and comply with internal policies and legislation.
- Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internally.
- Lead internal training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
- Investigate and record incidents and accidents and produce statistics.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation.
- Produce management reports and bulletins.
- Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational ill health and diseases.
Who we are looking for:
You will have the following:
- Health, Safety Qualifications – Attained, (or working towards) relevant NEBOSH Certificate, NCRQ NVQ (Level 4-6 or equivalent)
- Ability to influence and promote a positive SHE culture.
- Competent in incident & accident investigation
- Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
- Ability to prepare formal written reports on H&S topics.
- Demonstrate commitment to continual learning.
- Broad experience of construction and civils projects.
- Ability to engage and converse at all levels.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
- Experience of working in the construction industry.
- Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area.
- Good understanding of CDM 2015 – Roles and Responsibilities.
- Experience of or understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 9001.
