Trainee Health, Safety & Environment Advisor

We have a great opportunity for a Trainee Health, Safety and Environment Advisor to join our team. As our Trainee Advisor you will support L & W Wilson in the safe planning, delivery and review of a variety of projects across sites in Lancashire and Cumbria whilst ensuring compliance with the company and statutory requirements of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Policies, Standards and legislation.

What we would like from you:
Key Responsibilities –

  • Carry out risk assessments and identify how risks can be controlled
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards.
  • Carry out regular recorded site inspections to ensure policies and procedures are being properly implemented and identify trends
  • Ensure working practices are safe and comply with internal policies and legislation
  • Prepare health and safety strategies and develop internally
  • Lead internal training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
  • Investigate and record Incidents and accidents and produce statistics
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation
  • Produce management reports and bulletins
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational ill health and diseases

Competencies –

  • Minimum of / or working towards NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate and/or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to converse confidently with people of all levels and a professional and friendly telephone manner.
  • IT literate and competent, experienced user of computers – previous experience using Microsoft Word, excel and PowerPoint
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated individual able to work independently and integrate well as a team member, generally possessing a flexible attitude
  • A well-organised individual with the ability to multi-task and a key eye for detail
  • Smart (business appropriate) appearance, diplomatic and discreet nature, flexible attitude
  • The right to live and work in the UK
  • Full UK Driving License

Desirable –

  • Experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role
  • Experience in the construction industry

Volumetric Concrete Mixer Operator

Full Time Post

  • Competitive salary available depending on experience.
  • HGV Class 2 required
  • Valid CPC required.
  • Must be able to drive automatic and manual (split-box).
  • No experience in the concrete industry needed as full training will be provided. You will be required to work Saturdays when required due to the needs of the business.

Groundworker

We are looking for skilled Groundworkers to join our reputable company based in Endmoor, Kendal covering sites over North Lancashire and Cumbria. Joining an expanding company, you will be part of a successful team working on exciting new build residential and commercial projects

Your New Role

Working in a fast-paced environment you will be required to carry out all aspects of groundworks including drainage, services, kerbs, edging, flagging & block paving and concrete works.

  • Groundwork experience
  • CSCS Card
  • CPCS or NPORS Dumper/Roller ticket preferred but not essential
  • Own Transport / Driving License preferred but not essential dependant on residing area

Groundworks Foreman

L and W Wilson is a Groundworks and Civil engineering company based in Cumbria which has been established for over 40 years. We are looking for an experienced Groundworks Foreman to join ourselves to lead our teams for projects throughout Cumbria and North Lancashire

You will be required to oversee all aspects of Groundworks – Drainage, Concrete pours, road construction, Paving, Kerbing. SMSTS/CSCS/CPCS cards would be advantageous.

Your role will include organising the team of groundworkers’ day to day tasks as well as the following.

  1. Ensure that work is carried out to meet the relevant quality standard and that safe working practices are followed
  2. Complete all relevant paperwork required by both the client and the company.
  3. Liaising with the Quantity Surveyors to ensure that accurate records are kept and only carry out the works instructed

Plant Fitter

We are looking for a qualified full time Plant Fitter to maintain a fleet of construction machinery (excavators, dumpers, rollers etc.) and other vehicles including HGV’s.

This role will be based at our Endmoor workshop, near Kendal but will be attending various sites for maintenance and breakdowns.

  • Your role will be to undertake planned, reactive maintenance and emergency running repairs to our plant.
  • You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing both fixed and mobile processing equipment.

HGV Fitter Apprentice

  • We are looking for a HGV Fitter Apprentice to work within our workshop alongside qualified technicians where you will learn the practical aspects of motor vehicle mechanics.
  • Attending college and training courses when required to learn the technical aspects of motor vehicle mechanics.
  • Within the limits of your training level and capability, you will maintain our vehicles and trailers to Ministry of Transport Standards, whilst following company and manufacturers policies.
  • Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components.
  • Basic IT Skills required
  • Responsibility for the safety of the working environment and all colleagues/persons within it

Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer

We currently recruiting for a Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Setting out Groundwork project throughout North Lancashire and Cumbria 
  • Manage your own work load over various sites and projects
  • Assist the Project Manager / Site Agents with site records and permits as appropriate
  • Communicate setting out control and provide information to assist with the construction of works
  • Carry out pre-start OGL surveys, reduce level survey and use CAD software to obtain setting out information. 
  • Assist the Quantity Surveyors by produce drawings and volume calculations
  • Ensure setting out equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

 Candidate

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and driven and to have pride in your workmanship. Have good communication skills to liaise with multiple members of the organisation from the MD to site operative.  
  • Qualified to degree / Industry standard. 
  • Applicants will have a proven record of setting out on Groundworks projects including earthworks, deep drainage, highways and foundations. You must be capable of producing accurate AsBuilt drawings and survey drawing for records.
  • Applicants should hold a CSCS card and have at least 2+ years site experience. A competitive salary will be offered.

Hours Monday to Friday 8:00am to 5:30pm, occasional Saturdays
